The Ministry of Interior Defends Ban on Social Media Platform X
The ministry of interior has justified the ongoing ban on social media platform X, citing concerns regarding peace and national security. The ban, imposed on Feb 17, is based on intelligence reports indicating that the platform is being used to spread misinformation and incite violence.
In a statement before the Sindh High Court, the ministry highlighted that hostile elements are utilizing platform X to create chaos and destabilize the country. The ban, according to the ministry, is necessary to disrupt these activities and safeguard national security.
While emphasizing that the ban does not intend to restrict freedom of expression, the ministry maintains that it is essential to ensure responsible use of social media platforms in compliance with the law. The ministry also referred to the case of TikTok, where a similar ban was lifted after the platform agreed to adhere to national laws.
The ministry expressed its commitment to upholding the interests of the Pakistani people and ensuring the security and stability of the nation. It urged the court to dismiss petitions challenging the ban in the interest of national security.
