Irish woman Tori Towey is in “the most appalling circumstances” in the United Arab Emirates, the Dáil heard

Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Simon Harris has pledged to intervene on behalf of Tori Towey, who is facing criminal charges in the UAE under troubling circumstances.

Tori Towey, an Irish woman from County Roscommon, is accused of “attempted suicide and the abuse of alcohol” in a case that has raised concerns about her well-being.

The Irish government, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin, is providing consular assistance in response to the case that has caught the attention of Irish MPs and human rights advocates.

With international pressure mounting, there is hope that Tori Towey will soon receive the support needed to return home. The Irish government is urged to take a firm stand against the treatment of women in such circumstances.
