After a dust storm, Karachi experienced much-needed relief with light to moderate rain, but three individuals tragically lost their lives in rain-related incidents. Surjani Town received the highest amount of rainfall at 58.2mm, causing flooding on roads and overflowing drains. The opposition parties criticized the city administration’s failure to clear storm-water drains, leading to the accumulation of rainwater.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab claimed that all choking points were cleared and efforts are being made to prevent any inconvenience during the monsoon season. Power outages and disrupted power supply were also reported in parts of the city.
The Met Office forecasts hot and humid weather with possible drizzle/light rain today. Both the MQM-P and PTI criticized the city government’s inefficiency in clearing drains, causing urban flooding risks. Mayor Wahab visited various areas to ensure preparedness for the rainy season, while Chief Minister Murad emphasized the need for strong coordination among municipal organizations to manage traffic movement and development work during the rains.
