Farmer commits to supplying food to Western Bahr el Ghazal.

A farmer in Jur River County of Western Bahr el-Ghazal is determined to supply the entire state with local food products this year. Santino Manut Akec, the founder of Rain Power Green Agriculture Cooperative Society, is leading the initiative by cultivating 2,500 acres of land in Marial Bai.

He expressed his commitment to President Kiir’s call to fight hunger in South Sudan and highlighted the support received from organizations like FAO, Concern Worldwide, HARD, and ACTED. Last year, Rain Power produced 3,700 bags of groundnuts and 1,050 bags of sorghum.

State Minister for Cooperatives, Soro Ibrahim Soro, praised the cooperative’s efforts and encouraged local farmers to seek funding from the Cooperative Bank. Akec also reminded President Kiir of the promise to provide each cooperative with a tractor.

By ensuring food security, supporting local farmers, and fostering cooperation between government and farming communities, Western Bahr el-Ghazal is on track to become self-sufficient in food production.
