Transforming market infrastructure in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU program EU4AGRI has facilitated the development of new market facilities. The Mala Tepa market, situated in the historic quarter of Mostar, has received a makeover with the installation of 21 modular kiosks, 10 mobile stands, and upgraded electrical kiosks. The European Union’s contribution of over 180,000 KM has been instrumental in enhancing the market layout and enriching the living standards of Mostar’s locals.
With a focus on educating vendors about marketing, food regulations, and safety protocols, the initiative aims to advance market operations. The EU’s Head of Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johann Sattler, expressed pride in the project’s impact on the local community, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector.
Under the EU4AGRI project, market enhancements have not only benefited Mostar but also other cities like Trebinje, Banja Luka, and Zenica. The total investment of more than 2.3 million KM across 12 municipalities underscores the EU’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth and economic prosperity in the region.
Collaborating with local organizations like UNDP and the Czech Development Agency, the renovation of Mala Tepa market symbolizes a shift towards sustainable tourism and authentic local experiences. By empowering women entrepreneurs like Zejna Šanjević-Kussmaul, the project is promoting indigenous products and showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.
