Taiwan’s leader boosts military morale before annual war games

Taiwan’s leader, Lai Ching-te, recently delivered an inspiring speech to Air Force officers, highlighting historical victories of smaller militaries over larger adversaries, aiming to boost morale for upcoming war games. Despite persistent military exercises by China near Taiwan, the island’s armed forces remain steadfast in defense.

Implementing the strategy of “asymmetric warfare,” Taiwan is modernizing its military with new equipment like submarines and focusing on mobility and defense systems like vehicle-mounted missiles and drones to counter China’s numerical advantage.

Lai emphasized that military strength goes beyond mere numbers, citing historical examples where innovative strategies led to victory over larger forces. As Taiwan prepares for the annual Han Kuang drills, tensions rise with China conducting its own war games as a response to Taiwan’s stance on sovereignty.

Lai rejects Beijing’s claims and underscores Taiwan’s pursuit of peace through self-reliance and preparedness. Despite concerns about Taiwan’s military readiness, Lai asserts that their focus is on defending peace.
