The Swiss Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research (EAER) recently announced an expansion of sanctions lists against Russia, aligning with additional measures adopted by the EU in response to Russia’s military actions against Ukraine. As part of the 14th package of sanctions, Switzerland will impose restrictions on 69 individuals and 86 entities within its jurisdiction, targeting a range of actors including businessmen, propagandists, and members of the armed forces and judiciary.
In particular, the sanctions will affect companies in the Russian defense sector and those engaged in financial and trade activities that seek to circumvent existing sanctions. The move underscores Switzerland’s commitment to supporting European efforts to hold Russia accountable for its actions, including the deportation of Ukrainian children and involvement in the conflict.
The collaborative approach taken by Switzerland and the EU demonstrates a unified stance against Russian aggression, sending a clear message that violations of international law will not be tolerated. These sanctions represent a significant step in ensuring accountability and promoting peace and stability in the region.
