Fake News Report: Morocco Third Most Targeted Country in June

A recent report by fact-checking platform Misbar has brought to light the alarming trend of fake news targeting Morocco in June, ranking the country as the third-most targeted behind Yemen and Palestine. The report identified approximately 15 fabricated news stories aimed at destabilizing the North African nation.

One particularly dangerous hoax alleged Moroccan troop deployment alongside the Israeli military in the Gaza conflict, spreading misinformation that could potentially incite regional tensions. Cybersecurity expert Anas Abu Al Kalam attributes the prevalence of fake news in Morocco to the widespread use of social media, where falsehoods spread rapidly and unchecked.

Abu Al Kalam emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to combat fake news, including educating citizens on media literacy, implementing legal measures to deter disinformation, and utilizing technology to identify and remove fake content. He underscores the importance of collaboration between the government, media outlets, and tech companies to address this pressing issue.
