Kharge accuses Modi govt of aiming to keep youth unemployed

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Modi government of deliberately keeping the youth jobless, citing various economic reports and government data.

Kharge highlighted the loss of 54 lakh jobs in the manufacturing sector between 2015 and 2023, as reported by NSSO. He pointed out that there was only a marginal increase of 16 lakhs in employment in non-agricultural enterprises over 12 years.

Referring to PLFS data, Kharge stated that the urban unemployment rate was at 6.7% in Q4 of FY24. He also mentioned a decline of 10% in new jobs in the formal sector in 2023.

According to Kharge, independent reports show high unemployment rates, especially among the youth and women. He criticized the government for rejecting such reports that expose their failure in job creation.

Kharge concluded by emphasizing the need for creating 1.2 crore jobs annually as recommended by Citigroup, highlighting the government’s inability to generate sufficient employment opportunities.

The Congress leader slammed the Modi government for its failure to address the unemployment crisis, attributing it to policies like demonetization and GST.
