Israel weaponizing arbitrary arrests of Palestinians fuels conflict.

Israel weaponizing arbitrary arrests of Palestinians fuels conflict.

Recently, Palestinians detained by Israel have spoken out about the horrific treatment and torture they have endured, particularly in military detention centres. This mistreatment is not new, as Palestinians have long accused the Israeli government of using arbitrary arrests as a weapon and subjecting them to discrimination and abuse within the penal system.

However, the situation has escalated dramatically since October 7, with reports of increased abuse, lack of accountability, and even deaths from torture. Government ministers have openly boasted about putting prisoners on “starvation diets,” painting a grim picture of the dangers faced by Palestinian detainees, who are often held without charge or trial.

In a recent discussion, presenter Anelise Borges was joined by former detainee Barca Odeh, Basil Nasir (brother of detainee Layan Nasir), Noa Sattath (Executive Director of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel), and Jenna Abuhasna (Addameer International Advocacy Officer) to shed light on the alarming situation.
