Estonian authorities are gearing up to construct a defensive line along their border with Russia by 2025. The ambitious project involves testing prototype bunkers that will be part of a fortification line spanning 294 kilometers. With an estimated cost of €60 million, the government is exploring three different bunker designs, which will be put to the test in September with 155-millimeter shells.
The exact locations for the bunkers are still under consideration, but the procurement process has been completed. The project, known as the ‘Baltic Defense Line,’ was announced earlier this year by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, with Latvia and Lithuania also participating.
In addition to bunkers, the defense line will include anti-tank barriers, razor wire, and other obstacles to be deployed in case of conflict. Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, is also taking steps to fortify its city with anti-tank structures. Despite concerns of a potential Russian attack, Moscow has denied any plans, referring to Western claims as propaganda.
