A homeowner in an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood shot at would-be burglars who broke into his house, police say. At least two suspects entered the home in Valley Village, prompting the homeowner to open fire with a semi-automatic handgun, injuring one perpetrator.
The other suspect fled before police arrived. The injured suspect, a 25-year-old male, was found inside the home, while the homeowner, who was alone at the time, also sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The incident appears to be a random targeting.
Police are searching for the at-large suspect, described as an African American male in his early 20s. Burglaries have been on the rise in Los Angeles, leading to heightened security measures in the city. Homeowners are advised to be vigilant and secure their properties to prevent intrusions.
“Knowing your neighbors and being aware of your surroundings can be the best defense against burglaries,” said LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz. “Taking preventive measures like securing windows can help deter potential intruders.”
In a similar incident in Newport Beach, a homeowner shot a burglar inside a gated home. Such cases highlight the importance of home security in safeguarding against intrusions.
