The NATO 2024 summit in Washington DC marks the 75th anniversary of the military alliance, focusing on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and countering Chinese influence globally. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and outgoing Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg are among the key speakers at the 3-day summit.
The summit also sees non-member states like New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea attending for the third year to address China’s presence in the Pacific. Stoltenberg announced a $43 billion aid package to Ukraine, with ongoing assistance through the NSATU program.
As the US presidential elections approach, President Biden and his challenger, Donald Trump, are expected to discuss their policies towards Ukraine at the summit. Doubts about Biden’s health have surfaced after a television debate, raising questions about his ability to lead effectively.
