An American mountain climber who went missing 22 years ago has been discovered thanks to melting ice. William Stampfl, aged 59, vanished in a 2002 avalanche while striving to conquer the 22,000-foot Huascaran mountain in Peru.
Peruvian authorities revealed that the melting ice in the Cordillera Blanca range of the Andes unveiled his remains, complete with clothes, harness, and boots, perfectly preserved. Stampfl was identified through his passport found among his belongings.
