The United Kingdom has seen a significant shift in the class composition of its government with the establishment of a new Labour government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
An analysis revealed that 46% of Starmer’s shadow Cabinet members come from working-class backgrounds, a stark contrast to the 7% in the previous Conservative government.
In another striking difference, only 17% of Starmer’s Cabinet members received private education, compared to a much higher percentage in previous Conservative and Labour Cabinets.
This change reflects a move towards greater diversity and representation of different socio-economic backgrounds in the UK government, as the new administration aims to better reflect the population it serves.
These numbers highlight a departure from the traditional elite-dominated political landscape and signify a more inclusive and representative approach to governance in the UK.
