A recent report from National Treasury reveals a concerning trend of provincial government departments failing to pay their suppliers on time. The number of overdue invoices has surged by 53% by the end of the last financial year, totaling over 113,000 invoices amounting to R10.6 billion.
Despite the requirement for government departments to settle their bills within 30 days unless specified otherwise in a contract, the noncompliance with payment of suppliers’ invoices has become a pressing issue.
