The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martins Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminialayi Fubara of violating the 1999 Constitution. In a letter dated July 8, 2024, the House highlighted Fubara’s actions that breached the Constitution, specifically regarding the 2024 Appropriation Bill.
The House called out the governor for not presenting the Bill before the duly constituted Assembly, as required by the Constitution. They also pointed out Fubara’s appointment of purported members of the Executive Council and the local government in defiance of legal judgments.
The Assembly demanded that Fubara rectify these violations within seven days to avoid further consequences. They emphasized that his actions constituted gross misconduct and abuse of office, urging him to comply with the law.
Despite court orders and legal rulings, the governor continued to engage with suspended individuals, further aggravating the situation. The Assembly urged Fubara to act lawfully and respect the Constitution to avoid escalating the matter.
