While South Africa celebrates 100 days without load shedding, President Cyril Ramaphosa warns that the electricity system remains vulnerable and further power cuts cannot be ruled out.
Last Friday marked 100 days since South Africa last experienced load shedding, the longest period without power cuts since 2020. President Ramaphosa acknowledges the milestone but stresses that the electricity system is still at risk. The ongoing cooperation between government, business, and other partners has led to improvements in Eskom’s operational performance. The latest developments, including the commissioning of additional power units, have boosted consumer and investor confidence and are positively impacting the national economy.
As structural reforms continue to address energy challenges, the recent launch of the National Transmission Company South Africa is a significant step towards establishing a more competitive and secure energy market. President Ramaphosa urges continued collaboration to achieve the goal of ending load shedding and ensuring a stable energy future.
