LFI’s François Ruffin narrowly re-elected

François Ruffin, incumbent left-wing maverick MP, during the parliamentary electoral campaign in the Espérance housing estate, northern France, on June 23, 2024.

Left-wing MP François Ruffin secured a third term in the Assemblée Nationale on July 7, winning 51.21% of votes cast in France’s parliamentary elections against the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) candidate, Nathalie Ribeiro-Billet (48.13%). Despite facing challenges from the RN’s growing influence in his constituency, Ruffin’s victory showcased his ability to connect with voters and navigate political rivalries.

Ruffin, a former journalist first elected in 2017, overcame opposition from his former parliamentary group and constituents disenchanted with traditional political representation. His successful re-election demonstrates his resilience and adaptability in a changing political landscape.
