Johannesburg’s MMC for human settlements, Anthea Leitch, has officially resigned from her position, as confirmed by Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s office. Leitch, a member of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), joined the mayoral committee in January 2022 and also served as the party’s treasurer-general.
PA’s deputy president, Kenny Kunene, stated that Leitch will now focus on party work full-time as the party continues to grow. Gwamanda praised Leitch as a dedicated and hardworking member of the mayoral committee, highlighting her compassion and determination in addressing housing needs in the city.
Her resignation will prompt the government of the local unity coalition in Johannesburg to search for a replacement among their ANC/EFF/PA and minority party partners. Gwamanda is expected to announce her successor in the coming days.
