Israeli Protesters Demand Hostage Swap Deal with Palestinians

Hundreds of Israelis gathered near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in West Jerusalem on Sunday to demand a hostage swap deal with Palestinian factions, including Hamas. Demonstrators in Tel Aviv and Netanya also joined the calls for negotiations.

Despite police intervention, the protesters remained persistent in urging the government to prioritize the release of hostages. Netanyahu expressed optimism about a potential cease-fire plan supported by US President Joe Biden, which could facilitate the negotiations.

Efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt to mediate an agreement between Israel and Hamas have faced challenges due to Netanyahu’s reluctance to heed Hamas’s call for a truce. The prolonged conflict has led to significant casualties and destruction in Gaza, prompting international condemnation.

The situation remains volatile as Israel continues its offensive, defying UN resolutions. The protesters’ determination reflects a growing sentiment of discontent towards the government’s handling of the crisis.
