Hong Kong court clears employer accused of firing cancer-stricken helper

A Hong Kong court dismissed a discrimination lawsuit against a woman who allegedly mistreated her Filipino helper, Guting, who died in 2018 after battling cervical cancer. The judge highlighted the absence of Guting’s court testimony and the unreliable hearsay evidence from her friends. The defendant claimed Guting was fired for uploading indecent pictures on social media, which the judge found to be a valid reason for dismissal. The court also rejected claims of disability discrimination and unlawful termination, stating that enmity alone does not constitute harassment.
