Heavy rains in Mumbai disrupt transport, shut schools

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in India, causing disruptions in various modes of transportation. Water on the tracks led to the cancellation of long-distance trains, while suburban passenger trains were brought to a halt on inundated lines. The low visibility also forced airport authorities to suspend runway operations for over an hour, resulting in delays and cancellations of several flights.

Major airlines like IndiGo and SpiceJet reported disruptions in their Mumbai flights due to the heavy rain. This comes after record-breaking showers in New Delhi, where an airport roof collapsed, claiming lives. The monsoon rains have also triggered floods and landslides, affecting millions of people in India and Nepal.

In northeastern Assam, floods have submerged the Kaziranga National Park, leading to casualties among the rare one-horned rhinoceros. The total death toll from floods and rain-related incidents since May has reached 66, with 31 villages affected in Uttar Pradesh.
