Hamas Flexibility in Prisoner Exchange Talks with Israel
Hamas expressed willingness to be flexible in potential prisoner exchange talks with Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing negotiations. The group called for international intervention to stop Netanyahu’s actions.
Netanyahu’s office claimed that any deal must prevent weapons smuggling to Hamas from Egypt and the return of fighters to northern Gaza. Opposition leader Yair Lapid offered support for the deal, urging Netanyahu to proceed despite opposition within the government.
Israeli Defense Minister Pushes for Ceasefire
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the importance of reaching a ceasefire deal with a prisoner swap, citing current military pressure as an opportunity. However, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich opposed the agreement, labeling it a defeat for Israel.
Upcoming talks in Doha and Cairo will focus on a potential agreement for the release of prisoners and a Gaza ceasefire.
