China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Belarus recently conducted a joint “anti-terrorism” exercise to enhance regional peace and stability. The military drill involved the arrival of Chinese soldiers and aircraft at Belarus’ largest military airport, where they were welcomed by Belarusian officials.
The exercise, named “Eagle Assault-2024,” focused on training response to insurgents and terrorists, as well as improving joint operations between the two countries’ armies. The drills took place in Brest, near the Polish border, with a specific emphasis on hostage rescue tactics and tactical coordination.
Chinese milbloggers emphasized that the military cooperation was not directed at any third country, highlighting the strategic partnership between China and Belarus. The PLA soldiers participating were from the 80th Medium Combined Arms Brigade, known for its combat experience dating back to the Korean War.
Belarus, a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), joined forces with China to counter Western influence and boost collective security. The close ties between Belarus’ President Lukashenko and China’s President Xi Jinping underscore their commitment to regional security and economic development.
