China Urges NATO to Stop Creating Tensions in Asia-Pacific Region

In a press conference in Beijing, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called on NATO to refrain from escalating tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. Jian emphasized the need for NATO to stick to its role as a regional defensive organization and avoid promoting Cold War mentalities and bloc confrontations.

The Chinese government criticized NATO’s expansion into Asia and military buildup, characterizing it as driven by Cold War ideologies and biases. These remarks coincide with the presence of leaders from South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and other Asia-Pacific nations in Washington for the upcoming NATO summit, commemorating the alliance’s 75th anniversary on July 9–11.
