Catholic priest kidnapped in Zamfara freed after 2 weeks

The Parish Priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church Damba, Gusau, Zamfara State, Mikah Suleiman, has been freed from the clutches of bandits after being kidnapped for two weeks. His release was confirmed by the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Pascal Salifu, on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

Salifu expressed gratitude for the safe return of Fr. Suleiman and thanked all those who prayed and supported during this difficult time. The priest is currently receiving care while prayers for his recovery continue.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the abduction and efforts to rescue the priest. The acting Chancellor of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Nuhu Iliya, called for prayers for the priest’s swift and safe release.

Earlier in June 2024, another priest was abducted in Kaduna State, emphasizing the danger faced by clergy in the region. The community is urged to continue praying for the safety of all priests.
