A dramatic rescue mission unfolded in Zamfara State as 18 out of 20 marketers were saved from a capsized canoe en route from Kwalgai village to Hadin. The Jigawa State Police Command disclosed that the accident was caused by powerful waves and overloading, leading to the loss of control by the operator.
Swift action by divers, fishermen, and policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer, resulted in the successful rescue of the passengers. Unfortunately, two female passengers remained missing until one, identified as Habiba Ado, was found on July 8, 2024, and promptly taken to the hospital.
As efforts continued to locate the second missing woman, the rescued victims received urgent medical attention. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by those who rely on water transport in the region.
