French voters in the recent parliamentary elections have upheld a trend seen across the EU, according to Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. With President Emmanuel Macron’s bloc coming in third, the right-wing National Rally party claimed the top spot, followed by the left-wing New Popular Front.
Peskov emphasized the Russian government’s close attention to the French elections, noting that the emerging trends in several European nations, including France, have been confirmed. Moscow perceives Macron’s government as hostile and a driver of Western confrontation with Russia.
Macron’s strategy of maintaining “strategic ambiguity” regarding Ukraine has attracted criticism, as his recent actions seem to have backfired, with the dissolution of the National Assembly being viewed as a risky move that may not pay off. The second round of elections is set for July 7, and Macron is reportedly considering whether to dissolve the newly-elected parliament.
