Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, expressed gratitude to Keir Starmer for his continued support following the election of a new UK government. Zelenskiy and Starmer coordinated ahead of the upcoming Nato summit, where Ukraine hopes to hear about possible steps towards membership. Nato allies are set to unveil a “bridge to membership” for Ukraine and bolster its air defenses at the summit in Washington.
Ukraine has been working to double its air defense capacity, receiving support from various countries like Germany and the US. In contrast, Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine have resulted in casualties and damage to infrastructure, prompting condemnations from Ukraine and its western allies.
However, criticisms were directed at Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his visit to Moscow without a mandate from the EU council. Orbán’s actions were seen as not representing the EU’s position on relations with Russia.
