Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian emerged victorious in Iran’s presidential runoff election, defeating ultraconservative Saeed Jalili. With over 16 million votes, Pezeshkian secured the win, while Jalili received more than 13 million votes. Over 61 million eligible Iranian voters participated in the election, with the counting process starting immediately after polls closed at midnight. Pezeshkian, a former health minister and parliament member, will succeed Ebrahim Raisi as president. A cardiologist by profession, he brings a wealth of experience in healthcare and administration.
