The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police have successfully apprehended three of the 18 prisoners who had escaped from Poonch district jail in Rawalakot over the weekend. Among the escapees, Muhammad Usman Afraz and Faizan Aziz were captured by separate police teams, while Noman Asif was arrested later. Afraz, a convicted murderer and terrorist, was involved in planning the jailbreak and resisted arrest, injuring two policemen in the process. Faizan Aziz, on trial for murder, was also among the captured escapees.
Following shared intelligence, police tracked down Afraz in a remote area outside Rawalakot, while Faizan Aziz was arrested in a nearby location. Noman Asif, sentenced to 25 years for murder, was apprehended with the help of his family. The police have been working diligently to capture the remaining escapees, aided by the arrest of 11 prison officials and individuals linked to the jailbreak.
Investigations revealed negligence and lapses in protocol that facilitated the escape, with efforts ongoing to locate the individuals responsible. Despite the challenges, law enforcement remains resolute in bringing all perpetrators to justice.
