Melanie Ward, former CEO of Medical Aid for Palestinians, has been elected as a member of the UK parliament, representing the Scottish constituency of Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy for the Labour party. Ward, who led MAP’s humanitarian efforts for Palestinians, expressed gratitude to her constituents and pledged to continue supporting the rights of Palestinians, especially those in Gaza, from her new role in the House of Commons.
In response to criticism from a British-Palestinian doctor regarding her alignment with a leader accused of supporting genocidal actions, Ward reiterated her commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights.
Despite controversy surrounding Labour leader Keir Starmer’s remarks on Israel’s actions in Gaza, Ward remains steadfast in her stance on the situation, emphasizing the need for politicians who understand and aim to address the political complexities affecting Palestinians.
MAP, Ward’s former organization, refrained from commenting on her political activities, affirming its commitment to supporting Palestinian communities through healthcare and relief efforts in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. With a new chapter ahead as an MP, Ward remains dedicated to championing the rights and dignity of Palestinians within the political sphere.
