The dispute over compensation for the family of Agniveer Ajay Kumar has escalated, with Rahul Gandhi alleging that the martyr’s family has not received any compensation yet. He criticized the Modi government for discriminating against Agniveers. Gandhi questioned why the family has not received ex-gratia payments in a video shared on social media.
In response, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh claimed that the family had been given Rs 1 crore, which the martyr’s father disputed, stating they had not received it. Gandhi emphasized the disparity in treatment between regular soldiers and Agniveers, highlighting differences in compensations and benefits.
The system categorizes deaths differently for soldiers and Agniveers based on duty-related and non-duty related factors. Insurance benefits also vary, with regular soldiers contributing monthly while Agniveers receive insurance without contribution.
After the controversy, the Indian Army refuted claims on social media, stating that the family of Agniveer Kumar has already been paid Rs 98.39 lakh of the due amount, with a total compensation of approximately Rs 1.65 crore.
