Cape Flats crime fighters are concerned about the number of pupils getting involved in criminal activities on behalf of gang members during school holidays. Ottery, Manenberg, Grassy Park, Mitchells Plain and Hanover Park are just some of the areas that have seen an increase in gang violence, resulting in bystanders getting caught in the crossfire. Community activist Lynn Phillips noted that in most cases, pupils were linked to gangs.
