Germany, Hungary clash over Orban-Putin meeting

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban made headlines with his recent diplomatic moves, visiting both Kyiv and Moscow in quick succession. Orban emphasized the need for peace talks and urged Ukrainian President Zelensky to consider a ceasefire, despite Zelensky’s insistence on Russian forces’ withdrawal.

However, Orban’s freelance trip to Russia raised eyebrows in the international community, leading to criticisms from the White House and Nato. EU officials clarified that Orban was not representing the European Council during his meetings with President Putin.

Despite the mixed reactions, Slovak leader Fico expressed admiration for Orban’s diplomatic efforts, emphasizing the importance of peace talks. Kremlin officials also noted that the visit was Orban’s initiative, reinforcing the significance of dialogue between Hungary and Russia.
