Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has called for a US Congress investigation into an alleged American plot to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government. During a meeting with a delegation from New York State Assembly and the American-Pakistani Public Affairs Committee, led by Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos, Gandapur raised concerns about a diplomatic cipher that caused political turmoil in Pakistan. The American delegation supported Gandapur’s request for an investigation, noting a change in their perceptions of Pakistan post-visit.
The meeting also discussed cooperation for social sector development, with plans to sign memorandums of understanding for partnership in health, education, trade, and human resources. Gandapur emphasized his government’s focus on healthcare, education, and women’s literacy in the province, highlighting the introduction of reforms to improve these sectors. The visitors lauded the provincial government’s initiatives in health, education, police, and climate change, particularly noting the increase in forest cover to 26%.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the potential for Pakistan-US relations to strengthen through collaboration in various sectors, including foreign investment opportunities in tourism, mines, agriculture, and hydropower.
