Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico made his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt in May. Fico, who was shot in the attack and underwent two surgeries, criticized liberal ideologies during his speech, expressing admiration for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Orban, known for his recent visit to Kyiv and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, encouraged a ceasefire in Ukraine, which President Zelensky refused. Fico, a pro-Russian populist, halted military aid to Ukraine, sparking controversy and concern.

The assailant, Juraj Cintula, stated that he did not intend to kill Fico but wanted to harm his health due to disagreements with the government’s policies. Fico is gradually recovering and expected to resume his duties as Prime Minister soon.

Despite the challenges, Slovakia’s political landscape remains tumultuous, reflecting wider tensions in the region.
