Search operations are set to resume on Saturday morning for two missing boaters on Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana, local officials report. The search was suspended on Friday evening due to challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and high waves.
The incident occurred when two men jumped off a boat with ten other people near Whiting on Lake Michigan. One swimmer began to struggle, prompting another man to jump in and assist. Unfortunately, both men encountered difficulties, leading to a third man wearing a life jacket entering the water. The Coast Guard successfully rescued the man in the life jacket but the two swimmers remain missing.
Efforts are being supported by multiple agencies, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Hammond Fire Department, Hammond Police Department, and Hammond Port Authority. Meanwhile, a separate incident in Muskegon saw the rescue of a man and a teenage girl from Lake Michigan.
These recent events underscore the importance of water safety and the need for caution when engaging in water activities.
