A coalition of Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and NATO are joining forces to combat disinformation, responding to security threats from China and Russia. This collaboration is expected to be formalized at an upcoming NATO summit in Washington, where the four nations will be recognized as partners in the Indo-Pacific region, known as IP4.
Plans include establishing a dialogue on countering disinformation, with Japan likely to host the first meeting. The group will also enhance support for Ukraine, focus on cyber defense, and leverage advanced technologies. This move is particularly crucial as countries like Russia and China spread false information amid global “information warfare.”
Leaders at the NATO summit, including Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, are expected to agree on IP4 participation in joint cybersecurity exercises. The growing partnership reflects the interconnected security concerns of the Indo-Pacific region and Europe, emphasizing the importance of collective security efforts.
