Morale is decreasing among North Korean military units tasked with constructing walls and laying mines along the inter-Korean border. The initiative to fortify the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) is causing hardship and danger for the soldiers involved.

Due to shortages of construction materials, soldiers are resorting to raiding civilian homes, causing fear among the local population. Additionally, food shortages are leading soldiers to steal supplies and face hunger, further deteriorating morale.

Injuries from mine-laying accidents are also a concern, with soldiers losing limbs or becoming blinded. Despite promises of recognition for injured soldiers, morale remains low and work progress slow.

The North Korean government’s focus on preventing defections to South Korea is driving the MDL fortification efforts. The government warns of severe consequences for defectors, adding pressure on both soldiers and civilians in the border region.

Despite the challenges, soldiers continue to voice the need for proper materials and safety measures. The situation highlights the difficult conditions faced by those stationed along the inter-Korean border.
