The plan, which will draw on the expertise of Japan and Cambodia in mine removal, seeks to aid nations grappling with the issue, including Ukraine.
Key components of the package include educational programs to prevent mine-related accidents, the provision of mine detection equipment, support for victims, and the development of an AI-powered system to identify potential mine locations. Cambodia, which endured a lengthy civil war resulting in the burial of millions of mines, has been a focus of Japanese aid efforts since 1998.
With ongoing conflict in Ukraine leading to widespread mine contamination, Japan’s assistance could prove crucial in safeguarding communities and restoring affected areas. By sharing knowledge and resources, Japan aims to make a meaningful impact on global mine clearance efforts.
