Government and petroleum dealers reach stalemate in talks

The government’s negotiations with the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association have hit a roadblock, leading to a country-wide strike scheduled for Friday. Despite talks between the two parties, the association remains firm in its decision to go on strike.

While the strike will not be observed in Islamabad due to a tragic incident, all petrol pumps across the country, except in the capital city, will remain closed. The association has announced that the strike will begin at 6 am on Friday.

The decision to strike comes in response to what the association deems as ‘unfair’ tax policies introduced in the recent budget of 2024-25. The petroleum dealers express frustration over the increasing burden of taxes, making it challenging for their businesses to operate smoothly.

Following the deadlock in negotiations with the government, the association remains resolute in their decision to proceed with the strike on July 5. This announcement has already caused long queues at petrol pumps, leading to traffic disruptions and chaos on main roads.
