Cracking Down on Smuggling: Nigerian Customs Service Seizes Illegal Goods

The Nigerian Customs Service is intensifying its efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities in the country, with the recent seizure of 11,650 litres of petroleum motor spirits (PMS). Along with the PMS, the customs command also recovered various items such as foreign spaghetti, secondhand clothing, medication, and vegetable oils, with a total Duty Paid Value of over fourteen million naira.

Additionally, the seized PMS will be auctioned to the public, with the aim of generating revenue for the Federal Government. The customs operations have already proven successful, with a significant increase in revenue generated compared to previous months.

Operation Whirlwind, a coordinated effort to combat smuggling across national borders, has also recorded successful seizures of PMS products in Sokoto Area Command. The operation aims to dismantle smuggling networks and ensure compliance with petroleum regulations.

With continuous monitoring and coordination with regulatory authorities, the Nigerian Customs Service remains vigilant in its efforts to clamp down on economic saboteurs and curb illegal activities. All stakeholders are urged to engage in legitimate business practices to avoid facing consequences for illegal activities.
