Uncovering the Dark Side of Cyberbullying in Kosovo
Television journalist Ardiana Thaci became the target of online attacks after exposing a network of abusive men called the “Albkings” who distributed intimate photos and videos of women without their consent. Thaci’s investigative report unveiled the disturbing tactics of the group, which operates on the social media platform Telegram, leading to her becoming a victim of cyberbullying herself.
Following the publication of her story, Thaci experienced a barrage of vulgar phone calls and threats to her safety, as well as attacks on her children. The Kosovo Journalists Federation condemned the retaliation against Thaci, emphasizing the dangerous consequences of exposing such online predators.
Psychologist Kaltrina Ajeti attributes the rise of cyberbullying in Kosovo to conservative values and sexual frustration among young men. Instances of online attacks have increased significantly in recent years, with little legal recourse to combat this alarming trend.
Efforts to address cyberbullying remain inadequate, despite the growing number of complaints. The story of Ardiana Thaci sheds light on the darker side of online harassment and the urgent need for stronger measures to protect victims in Kosovo.\
