Bajaj Auto MD urges govt to reassess GST on clean fuel vehicles

Bajaj Auto MD Calls for Review of GST Rates on Vehicles

In a recent event in Pune, Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj suggested that the government should reconsider GST rates on vehicles powered by clean fuels. At the launch of the first integrated motorcycle Freedom 125, he raised concerns about the use of “unsustainable subsidies” to promote electric vehicles.

Earlier, in collaboration with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Bajaj launched the world’s first CNG-run bike in three variants with a starting price of Rs 95,000. He highlighted the need for sustainable technologies to be promoted by sustainable means.

Bajaj Auto claims that their Freedom CNG motorcycle offers around 50% cost savings by significantly reducing fuel expenses compared to traditional petrol motorcycles. The bike has a CNG tank providing a range of over 200 kilometers on just 2 kilograms of CNG fuel, with a 2-litre petrol tank as a range extender for an uninterrupted journey.

Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability. The initiative aligns with the government’s infrastructure projects to build a CNG network and promote the use of cleaner fuels.
