With Russia and Iran playing significant roles in the region, there are concerns about the impact on Armenia’s progress towards democracy and freedom.
Senator Wicker commended Armenia’s determination to uphold democracy, quoting Thomas Paine on the difficulty of maintaining freedom. He emphasized the importance of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, border delimitation, and the release of prisoners of war.
Furthermore, the Armenian government’s desire to reopen borders for economic stimulation was conveyed to the US delegation, who pledged their support. Senator Wicker also warned Azerbaijan and other OSCE members about aligning with Russia, urging them to value and understand the importance of freedom.
