The Electoral Court in Bloemfontein has fined firebrand MK Party leaders Visvin Reddy and Bonginkosi Khanyile R150,000 each, with the sentence suspended for five years, for their “inciteful” remarks before the 2024 general elections.

This decision came after the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) requested the court to take action, claiming that their statements violated electoral laws.

IEC’s chief electoral officer, Sy Mamabolo, urged the court in a 94-page affidavit to revoke Reddy’s candidacy and impose a R200,000 fine, citing violations of Sections 87 and 93 of the Electoral Act.
