Nearly 10 million people have been displaced due to the ongoing war between the RSF and the regular army, with accusations of “ethnic cleansing” and warnings of famine in RSF-controlled areas. The RSF launched a campaign to seize Sennar city, but quickly targeted smaller towns Sinjah and al-Dinder, causing a mass exodus to neighboring states.
Images on social media show civilians of all ages crossing the Blue Nile. Activists in al-Gedaref and Blue Nile states report a lack of shelter and food aid for newcomers, with heavy rain adding to their challenges.
The UN’s International Organization for Migration estimates 136,130 people displaced in Sennar since June 24, adding to the 285,000 already displaced in the state. Villages in Gedaref state, another possible RSF target, are also experiencing an exodus.
In the west, at least 12 people were killed in al-Fashir due to artillery fire, as the city remains a battleground with residents fleeing to nearby towns and camps.
