UN experts have denounced the violation of Palestinians’ right to due process guarantees for over five decades, highlighting the Israeli military’s control over law enforcement functions in the occupied West Bank. This oppressive military system extends its reach into various aspects of Palestinian life, limiting political, cultural, and social freedoms.
Moreover, the experts expressed concern over the military’s failure to protect Palestinians from violent settler attacks, leading to extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, property damage, discrimination, and harassment. They called for the repeal of Military Order No. 378 and the dissolution of military courts to ensure fair trials in the region.
The statement by UN experts, including Margaret Satterthwaite and Francesca Albanese, emphasized the need to respect international law and prevent any further annexation in the West Bank. The transfer of authority to pro-settler officials was deemed unacceptable, urging Israel to uphold the rights of Palestinians and promote justice in the region.
It is imperative for the international community to address these human rights violations and advocate for a just resolution to the long-standing conflict in the Middle East.
